Dans Locmelis was selected in the fourth round (119th overall) by the Boston Bruins at the most recent NHL draft. The 18-year-old has impressed since the draft, and in five games for Team Latvia at the World Juniors, he helped his country's historic run with 1 goal and 1 assist.
He's also off to a fast start to his 2022-23 season, playing with Lulea HF Jr of the Swedish Major Junior League. In 10 games so far, Locmelis has recorded 6 goals and 6 assists, including this highlight reel goal:
The Bruins may have found a steal in the young Latvian, and it's a case where the lack of exposure pre-draft may have significantly benefited the club. Locmelis is reportedly on his way to the NCAA, and it will be intriguing as to where he'll play.
