Sad news broke early Friday morning that an NHL Hall of Fame member and a New York Islander great has passed away at the age of 65.
The Islanders broke the news on their website and Twitter that Mike Bossy lost his battle with lung cancer after being diagnosed in October of 2021.
Perhaps one of the league's greatest pure goal scorers collected 573 goals in just 752 career games. In addition, he had 553 assists for 1126 career points. He also attributed 85 goals and 75 assists in 129 playoff games and was an integral piece of the Islanders dynasty of the 80s, winning four Stanley Cups.
Along with his four Stanley Cups, Bossy won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year in 1978, the Lady Byng three times (1983,1984,1986) and the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP in 1982.
He spent his entire career with the New York Islanders.
No matter who you cheer for, it's devastating to see the hockey world lose one of its greatest players ever to play the game.
Condolences to the Bossy family!
