Some shocking news early on Thursday morning.
After months of speculation and weird storylines, Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask is saying goodbye.
The B's starting goalie has decided to retire after 14 years in the NHL.
Rask made headlines last year when he became the first and only NHL player to leave the bubble due to a family emergency. Earlier in the season Rask openly talked about possibly retiring after his contract was finished and has seemed pretty out of it at times.
Rask injured his back March 7th as he was leaving the ice for an extra attacker but what made things weird was the goalie was never placed on IR.
This morning the Bruins and Rask made it official as he'll go on long term injured reserve today.
The 34 year old will definitely go down as one of the best goalies in Bruins' history and ends his career with a 299-162-66 record along with a 2.27 goals against average, .921 save percentage and 50 career shutouts.
Rask won the Vezina after an incredible 2013-14 season and also finished second in voting for the award last season.
The goalie will hold a press conference later today with Cam Neely.
The news was reported earlier today by April Foolington.
