After a tough personal week for Linus Ullmark and his family, the goaltender used a recent tragedy to help Boston's comeback from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bruins gave up two goals to the Red Wings in under the first five minutes of the game, but an equipment switch in the intermission changed everything.
B/R Open Ice pointed out the wholesome moment:
Linus Ullmark started vs. Detroit on Saturday wearing his usual mask. He let up 2 goals in the first period.
During intermission, he switched to a brand new mask featuring his dog Baronen who died recently. He let up 0 goals after the switch and the Bruins won the game 3-2.
Last Wednesday, the Ullmark family announced that their Corgi, Baronen, had passed away, as Linus shared in an Instagram post. See below:
This occurred just two days after the Bruins goaltender revealed a brand new mask featuring Barnonen and the family's other dog, Greven.
After switching to the new mask after the first period, the 29-year-old stopped the next 27 shots he faced, helping the Bruins win 3-2. The win also helped Boston clinch a berth in the postseason and become the third fastest team to 50 wins in NHL history.
