Expectations were pretty low when the Bruins drafted the speedy forward in the 6th round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
But since then,
Cameron Hughes has done nothing but improve on a yearly basis. So much so that he led the Providence Bruins in scoring this season with 45 points in 59 games in the 2021-22 season. After leading Boston's AHL affiliate with 21 points in a shortened 25-game campaign last year, Hughes is once again leading the charge.
The 25-year-old left-winger, who was the University of Wisconsin team captain in 2017-18, has been turning heads with his stellar play on both sides of the puck this season.
A constant threat on the penalty kill, Hughes finished fifth in the AHL with four shorthanded goals this year.
Hughes has played in two NHL games so far in his career, failing to register a point in both. But with 113 points in his 194-game career in the American Hockey League and a highlight-reel NCAA career, he's proven that he's capable of producing in high-level environments.
Time will tell if it's Hughes that will get a call-up next season when the Boston Bruins need the help.
