One of the hottest goaltenders in the NHL right now, Swayman is coming off arguably the best week of his career.
Most NHLers will tell you that they'd much rather see their team win than receive any sort of individual recognition, but being honored in any way is always nice.
The NHL just released its top three players from the past week of action, and Boston's rookie netminder is nowehere to be found in the trio.
While it's hard to compare Swayman's stats with any forward's, it is much easier to evaluate how good he was compared to goaltender
Igor Shesterkin, the NHL's third star of the week.
Shesterkin went 3-0-0 in the past week, finishing with a 1.67 goals against average and a .955% save percentage. Swayman also had a perfect 3-0-0 record on the week, but completed the past seven days with a 1.95 goals against average, a .936% save percentage, and earned one shutout.
The main difference, however, sits in each netminder's opposition. Shesterkin did post better numbers, but he faced off against some lesser competition by taking on the St.Louis Blues (10th overall), the Winnipeg Jets (21st) and the New Jersey Devils 26th).
Swayman, on the other hand, fought off wins against the Los Angeles Kings (11th), the Vegas Golden Knights (13th) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (20th), with each of them coming on the road.
Should Swayman have received a mention in the latest NHL Stars of the Week? We sure think so. And The Hockey News long-time writer Adam Proteau agrees with us.
