On this day, May 27th, 2011, the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning battled it out in game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals. It was only fitting that the series went seven games in this back-and-forth series between two heavyweights.
Eleven years ago, 36-year-old Tim Thomas out-duelled 41-year-old Dwayne Roloson in a tight matchup to see who would advance to the Stanley Cup Final. The Lightning's Roloson was the busier goaltender, facing 38 shots, but Thomas was perfect, stopping all 24 shots he faced in a 1-0 final score in favour of the Boston Bruins.
Nathan Horton scored the lone goal of the game at 12:27 of the third period, which was assisted by David Krejci and Andrew Ference.
The Bruins would go on to face the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, where they defeated them in seven games, collecting their sixth Cup in franchise history.
