Boston Bruins set to ruin organization with massive offer sheet
According to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun a major NHL team could end up sending Martin Necas, an offer sheet.
The 25-year-old center will enter his 6th season in the NHL and has put up 243 points( 97 G, 146 A) in 362 NHL games played.
He set a career-high in 2022-2023 with 71 points( 28 G, 43 A) and wouldn't be able to match it this season, with 53 points( 24 G, 29 A), a feat not easy to accomplish with less ice time this season.
Offer sheets are pretty rare but one thing I've heard a bit this week on the Martin Necas front is a few teams wondering if that's a plausible avenue if the asking price in trade talks with Carolina remains too high. Probably a long shot play, but something to file away
The site Evolving Hockey projects Necas' next contract with a term of 7-years, with an AAV of $7.5 Million, to which an offer sheet would be just as expensive, as the Hurricanes would receive a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick in compensation.
.@EvolvingHockey has a contract prediction of 7 years at just over $7.51m. Offering him 7.5m would cost a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
And while it is still up, you can see that only 13 teams have the assets needed to land Martin Necas, thanks to CapFriendly's temporary largesse. The teams with the assets required are the Blackhawks, Canadiens, Blues, Flyers, Islanders, Capitals, Kraken, Red Wings, Kings, Wild, Predators, Sabres, and the Utah HC, who could all be in on Necas if they wanted him.
Per CapFriendly, these are the teams with the draft picks to pull off the most plausible Necas offer sheet (1st, 2nd, 3rd for $6.9M-$9.1M)
Offer sheets are a rare phenomenon in the NHL, but when they do happen it seems like the Hurricanes are always involved.
More as the story develops on the 25-year-old center.
