The Boston Bruins have taken their fans on a wild ride this season. While they undeniably dominated the regular season, setting a new NHL record, their hopes were dashed when they suffered a disappointing defeat in the first round of the playoffs against the Florida Panthers, a team ranked 17th.

But amidst the postseason woes, there was a glimmer of hope for the Bruins in the form of their newly acquired forward, Tyler Bertuzzi. The 28-year-old quickly established himself as a potential cornerstone for the team's future. However, there's a catch—Bertuzzi is set to become an unrestricted free agent, leaving his future with the Bruins uncertain.

The Bruins would be wise to secure Bertuzzi's services, considering his impressive performance during his short tenure with the team. In the grueling seven-game series against the Panthers, Bertuzzi notched five goals and 10 points, following a regular season where he contributed four goals and 16 points in just 21 games.

With the aging Brad Marchand nearing retirement, Bertuzzi appears to be the ideal candidate to fill his shoes, both in the present and the future. The question that looms large is: at what cost?

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Bruins could potentially ink a five or six year deal with Bertuzzi, paying him a mere $5.25 million per season. Personally, I find this to be an absolute steal. As arguably the best available free agent this offseason, Bertuzzi could easily command a salary of $7 million or more on the open market. However, considering his previous stint with the non-contending Detroit Red Wings, Bertuzzi might be inclined to join a contender like the Bruins at a discounted rate.
