The New York Rangers have made some changes to their team during the off-season already after missing the playoffs, and the Bruins have officially emerged as a team to land one of their star players.
Mike Sullivan was hired not long into the off-season for the Rangers, and he will be trying to get the organization back into the playoffs, but they may end up losing a top player.
During the 2024-25 season,
Will Cuylle emerged as a star on the Rangers roster scoring 20 goals, and 45 points in 82 games in just his second full season in the NHL.
He did this while averaging just over 15 minutes a game, and looked like he was going to be a bright spot for the team moving forward, but now it seems like he may not be apart of the organization much longer.
Cuylle plays a very physical style of hockey. If someone has the puck he has no problem running them over using his big frame. During the 2024-25 season he recorded 301 hits becoming just one of five players to have over 300 hits during the last season.
Bruins Emerge As A top To Acquire Cuylle
Here is what Clutchpoints.com had to say about the Boston Bruins possibly acquiring Will Cuylle in the off-season:
There are teams that need physicality like the Red Wings. These are teams who lack an edge on the ice, which can keep them from success. However, there are teams that desire physicality. It does not matter whether they need an edge, they want players who are buzzsaws on the ice. The Boston Bruins fit in this latter category.
Cuylle fits what the Bruins love to do more than the vast majority of players. He will hit anything that moves and could score 50 points every season. Boston is headed toward a rebuild and could use young players to lead the way. Cuylle fits their potential timeline while having some untapped potential Boston may be able to unlock.
The Bruins have the financial means to bring him in. However, there is a complication at play. If they want to offer sheet him at the second-round pick threshold, they would need swing a trade for their original selection. In any event, the fit makes sense for both sides.
With the cap space, and need for secondary scoring in the off-season, along with the way he plays the game, he makes perfect sense for the Boston Bruins to target him in the off-season.
