Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney is reportedly set to offer sheet an unexpected New York Rangers player
A major development with the Boston Bruins acquiring a top talented forward this off-season has been addressed, and it's not what many are thinking.
The fan base certainly responded poorly, in most comments coming through on social media, following the announcement, too profound to show.
Let's just say Bruins fans are not happy.
Despite the displeasure amongst the organization, fans have no option but to trust general manager Don Sweeney in leading the Boston Bruins back to their winning ways, and many believed it would involve acquiring a rival forward from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
No, not
Mitch Marner, but Matthews Knies, a highly skilled 22-year old forward who could fit the Bruins' plans nicely.
That was until a recent report surfaced from Bruins analyst Conor Ryan, who suggested the franchise may want to look the other way, have a look:
«
Matthew Knies is the popular choice, but my No. 1 RFA target is
Will Cuylle.
Already a 20-goal menace - with room to grow.»
While Matthew Knies could certainly shape the future of the Bruins' offense while being guided alongside
David Pastrnak, and potentially
Brad Marchand if he returns this off-season, he is on every team's offer-sheet list if push comes to shove and a general manager wants to make a risky move.
But Will Cuylle is a much more prominent option, playing in front of a packed Madison Square Garden over the past few seasons, Cuylle is known to the pressure.
He is no small forward, either. Standing at 6-foot-2, 213lbs, and 45 points in just his second NHL season, while averaging as little as 12 minutes of ice time per night, a higher role in Boston could easily erupt his game to the next step.
