Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney Officially Signs A Goaltender
This morning, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced that the team has signed a goaltender to a one-year entry-level contract, and there is a chance that he is going to be a replacement goaltender.
After a very disappointing season, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Bruins goaltenders, and their futures with the organization.
Jeremy Swayman signed a massive eight-year contract extension with the Boston Bruins in the off-season, and he is supposed to be the teams starting goaltender for the next seven-years, but after how he played last year, there is speculation the
Bruins may try and trade Swayaman.
Despite all the speculation about either Korpisalo, or Swayman being traded, this signing doesn't seem like they would be replacing one of the NHL goaltenders, instead a goaltender in the American Hockey League.
Bruins Sign A Replacement Goaltender
If the Boston Bruins do not sign either of them by July 1st, they are set to become free agents. Bruins insider Mark Allred stated that he feels like this is a plan B signing, in case the Bruins aren't able to get extensions done with them or they decide not to return:
Sounds like a plan «B» move in case Boston cannot get an extensions done with either Brandon Bussi or Michael DiPietro if they decide not to return for another year of AHL Bruins hockey.
Don Sweeney ended up signing Simon Zajicek to a one-year entry level contract that carries and NHL cap hit of $872,500.
