The Maple Leafs were not very happy with the hit, as they think Matthews was left in a vulnerable spot, which resulted in teammate
Max Domi stepping up for his teammate.
It didn't go as planned for
Domi , as Zadorov just simply hugged him and fell to the ice with him in his arms.
Following the Bruins' 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs, Nikita Zadorov ended up speaking out about his altercation with Domi.
Zadorov speaks on altercation with Domi
Zadorov explained that he won the OHL championship with Domi, and considers him a good friend. This is why he did not want to fight him.
«I'm not going to fight my friends. We won a championship together in OHL, I have respect for Max .. And he's so much smaller than me. It's a lose-lose for me if I fight him.»
The
Bruins' enforcer defenseman has never shied away from a fight before, but he felt like he shouldn't drop the gloves with his former teammate.
Domi did not speak out on the situation, but the Leafs have bigger things to worry about moving forward.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had no update on Matthews' situation following the game.
«We'll see tomorrow. Right now it's lower body, we'll just see tomorrow how he is,» Berube said post-game.
Leafs captain Auston Matthews ended up leaving the game after appearing in just 10:51 of ice time.
Matthews has scored nine goals and 14 points in 16 games this season for the Leafs, and if he is out long-term, this would be a huge blow for the Leafs.
