Boston Bruins Reportedly In Talks To Acquire $45.5 Million Player In A Blockbuster Trade

According to a recent report from an NHL insider, the Boston Bruins may be eyeing a blockbuster trade in the off-season for a $45.5 million player.
After the season came to an end, Kreider met with the media and stated that he wanted to stay with the New York Rangers. He called it home, but multiple reports suggest that it may be time for both of them to move on from each other.
NHL insider Phil Kocher stated:
«There is a strong sense that the feeling is mutual Kreider recognizes that the relationship has run its course.»
The 34-year-old has just two years left on a seven year, $45.5 million contract that was signed back in 2020. Kreider saw a dip in performance last season, only scoring 22 goals, and having 8 assists in 68 games, which was his lowest in multiple years.
New York Rangers General Manager Chris Drury has already started to make some changes trading away Jacob Trouba, and Kaapo Kakko during the season, and it looks like Kreider is up next.
Boston Bruins Reportedly Interested In Kreider
The Boston Bruins were terrible last season, and a big reason for that was due to their power play. They ended up ranking 29th on the power play, and only scored on 15.22 percent of their chances for a total of just 35 power play goals.
During the off-season, the Boston Bruins will be looking to add some scoring help, and Kreider is one of the leagues best goal scorers on the power play. During the 2021-22 season, he finished the year with a league leading 26 power play goals, 11 of them being game winning goals, and finished the year with 52 goals.
What The Bruins Would Have To Give Up

The Bruins are considering sending Pavel Zacha, Fabian Lysell, and a 2026 first-round draft pick to the Rangers in exchange for Kreider. Zacha is a 28-year-old center with a $4.75 million cap hit. Lysell is a Swedish rookie winger who spent most of the season in the AHL. He has a cap hit of $863,000. The Bruins would also need to move additional salary or get the Rangers to retain part of Kreider's contract, since Boston currently has only $744,000 in cap space.
That's a big ask to give up for a aging forward. It will be interesting to see if Don Sweeney goes out and does this or looks else where for scoring depth.
