Boston Bruins President Cam Neely has outlined the team's next moves. They could go a path of retooling the lineup at the trade deadline or being buyers in March.
The latter could end up being expensive if the Bruins don't move on from veteran players and the former could cost both prospects and older players in the lineup.
If the Bruins do decide to retool, the Minnesota-born Brock Boeser should be the Canucks player they target.
Last season, he scored 73 points (40 G, 33 A) and is a pending UFA with the Canucks.
A forward like Boeser, who's been a fixture in the Canucks top-six could spark the offense a team like the Bruins need.
Since they consistently rely on two or three forwards to generate offense nightly, like Brad Marchand, Pavel Zacha, and David Pastrnak.
Instead of relying on three goal-scorers, he would add some needed depth in the lineup.
Boeser currently has a cap hit of $6.6 million AAV and it will expire at the end of the season.
Depending on how much a trade for Boeser would cost, as they've been interested in a defenseman lately, the Bruins could consider moving Mason Lohrei, and a pick for him.
Which, in all honestly would be much cheaper than a future 1st-round pick for the forward.
The Canucks would get a cheaper defenseman with some team control, and the Bruins get some top-six scoring in return.
Who says no?
In 43 games this season with the Canucks, he's scored 33 points (16 G, 17 A) and if the Bruins fail to make a deal they could see if he's available when July 1st rolls around.
