Two-time champion placed on waivers: Boston Bruins to make a move
The waiver wire has not been as active as it was leading up to the NHL roster deadline, but today an intriguing name was placed on the waivers and the Bruins have the chance to acquire a two-time champ for free.
On Wednesday afternoon, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman ended up confirming that the Washington Capitals have placed defenseman
Vincent Iorio on waivers.
Entering the season, the Capitals had high hopes for Iorio, but has been a healthy scratch for all of Washington's games so far.
Iorio ended up cracking the Capitals roster out of training camp, but due to being healthy scratched in every game, it's not surprising to see him land on waivers today.
Iorio has two Calder Cups to his name
The young defenseman has an impressive resume, and could intrigue the Boston Bruins to place a claim in for him.
Iorio, 22-years-old has won two Calder Cups, both with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League, and is set to head back there unless he is claimed off waivers.
Every team can use depth on their defense, and this is a good opportunity for the Bruins to do exactly that.
In 67 regular season games last year, Iorio scored five goals, 15 assists for 20 points.
His puck-moving ability and two-way play make him a solid asset and he could find a taker before Thursday.
If not, I'm sure he will be able to impress the Capitals as the season unfolds and get another crack at the main roster.
