Merkulov has been playing for the Providence Bruins for the past two years and according to eliteprospects.com, the 23 year old forward is considered a great puck handler, playmaker and offensive threat.
Last year in Providence, he had played 67 games, scoring 30 goals with 35 assists for 65 points. It's safe to say that he is going to push hard to try to make the Bruins lineup as their forward lines do have holes that need to be filled and maybe looked after by players from Providence.
Currently, general manager Don Sweeney may look at this option as he is currently wrangling with restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman. Swayman has demanded a large salary increase and the Bruins have dedicated $8.6 million of their cap space in a potential deal which will likely derail any chances of upgrading the team through either trade or through further unrestricted free agency.
