The Stanley Cup Playoffs has been bittersweet for Boston Bruins fans as they've had to watch their former captain, Brad Marchand make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, and to make matters worse it's with a big rival in the Florida Panthers.

General Manager Don Sweeney shocked fans during the NHL trade deadline whenever he traded Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers.
Because the Florida Panthers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Bruins got a first-round pick from the Florida Panthers for their trade involving Brad Marchand.

Marchand Calls Out Don Sweeney

Brad Marchand has recently talked about his departure from the Boston Bruins, and revealed how negotiations actually went with General Manager Don Sweeney:
"I didn't really expect to have the contract negotiations that I had," said Marchand as per NHL.com. "I thought that was going to go a lot different, which obviously I think impacted me mentally this year a lot. And I was frustrated by it. I never pictured even entering the season without a contract."

Marchand did not expect negotiations to go so badly with Don Sweeney especially considering he was willing to take a discount to stick with the Bruins.
"I didn't really want to play contract years out because I never really wanted to have that stress," admitted Marchand. "I always wanted the security of maybe take a little less and you get a deal done early and you have the security of it being done and you can just worry about playing hockey."

Marchand also stated that he had a hard psychological time entering the year without a contract and that it impacted his game this year.
"I find when you go into a season playing (without a contract), things matter. Your stats matter more. So, it doesn't just become about the team," admitted Marchand. "When you're on term and you're on a contract, it can be all about the team and you can sacrifice whatever you need to to be part of the team. But in contract years, you can't do that. You have to be a little bit selfish."

This is definitely going to be hard for Bruins fans to hear, but it just backs their point up that Don Sweeney should be fired.
