Confirmed: Don Sweeney is in contract talks with big named player ahead of July 1st free agency
The Boston Bruins are in the midst of a free agent frenzy, and it appears general manager Don Sweeney is about to make a crucial decision involving a big named defenseman.
In the current free agent market of
Vladislav Gavrikov,
Ivan Provorov, and several other left handed defenseman, right-handed shooters are a dime of dozen at the moment and hold tremendous value.
The Bruins have one of their own, but could he depart from the organization?
According to a recent report from Bruins analyst Ty Anderson, the Bruins are in talks with
Henri Jokiharju and his agent to secure a contract extension with the organization this summer.
Bruins still talking with Henri Jokiharju's camp. «We have a need on the right side, no doubt about that.»
Jokiharju has been bounced around a lot throughout his NHL career, and we can only assume he is looking for stability moving forward.
Traded to Buffalo by Chicago for
Alexander Nylander, July 9, 2019.
Traded to Boston by Buffalo for a 4th-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, March 7, 2025.

We can only hope Don Sweeney doesn't let this free agent run loose, as he would be a viable penalty killing defenseman for the Bruins and also a trade chip at the NHL trade deadline if the Bruins fail to make the playoffs once again.
July 1st free agency is just six days away, where we will learn Jokiharju's fate within the organization.
