A completed trade between the Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins has taken an unexpected turn, and it's shocking.

Last season, on March 4, the Boston Bruins traded their fan-favourite forward, Trent Frederic, to the Edmonton Oilers, where he would later sign an eight-year, $30.8 million deal, with an average annual value of $3.85 million), on July 27, 2025.
This contract seemed to be on the steep side for a player who was only averaging 13 goals and 26 points per 82 regular season games throughout his professional career thus far.
Frederic also didn't play a major role in the Oilers' playoff run last campaign, where he only averaged 11:24 of ice time per game.
However, new insight has unveiled that this forward will be expected to undergo an extremely important role within Edmonton's roster this upcoming season.

Former Boston Bruin Trent Frederic expected to receive major opportunity for the upcoming 2025/26 NHL season

Frederic, now being the Edmonton Oilers' fifth-highest-paid forward within the roster, will seemingly receive a prime opportunity within the organization, at least for the beginning of the season.
As this forward has been receiving consistent opportunities to prove his value on the Oilers' top line in camp, alongside highly skilled talents, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid.
«I want him playing with those guys for a bit to get some chemistry,» Knoblauch told Nugent-Bowman. «[Frederic] hasn't had the opportunity to play top six much in his career. We hope that he can complement them.»

Going from a 3rd and 4th line role with the Bruins to playing alongside, arguably the two best players in the world, is quite the interesting turn of events for Boston hockey fans as well as Trent Frederic himself, i'd put money on.
December 18th, the Oilers will host the Boston Bruins in what will be Frederic's first game facing his former team this season.
