Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is now facing some major backlash after some new contract details were leaked by NHL insiders.

It was reported that Brad Marchand rejected multiple contract offers from the Boston Bruins before being traded to the Florida Panthers. Everyone thought that the Bruins lowballed Marchand, but it turns out that wasn't the case.
It was reported following the NHL trade deadline that the Boston Bruins final contract offer was a two-year, $3 million deal. Turns out the Boston Bruins offered him something different.
The Bruins offered Brad Marchand a two-year extension worth $3M AAV before he was traded, per @Buccigross.
After the NHL trade deadline, Elliotte Friedman revealed that Marchand was willing to compromise on his contract, but the Boston Bruins were not willing to. Friedman did not reveal what the amount was on the contract, but new details have revealed that.
Brad Marchand was reportedly willing to compromise on his contract ask with the Bruins - but the Bruins were not willing to compromise, per @FriedgeHNIC.

After that, Marchand made it clear that the only team he wanted to go to was the Florida Panthers.

Marchand was "hurt" that a deal couldn't get done in Boston.

New details reveal what the Bruins offered Brad Marchand

According to Paul Bissonnette the Boston Bruins offered Brad Marchand a three-year $6.125 million (what he currently makes) but Marchand wanted $7.5 million. Marchand was willing to meet in the middle, but the Bruins were not.
Report from @BizNasty2point0 on @spittinchiclets that Bruins offered Marchand $6.125m (current cap-hit) and Marchand's camp asked for $7.5m.

Meeting was requested by Marchand who was willing to meet in the middle, but Bruins weren't.

If this is accurate I think Bruins were not satisfied with his production and/or leadership. Why else would they move on from him?
Marchand knew what direction the team was heading in, and giving up over $7 million to an aging forward just isn't worth it.
If this is accurate it changes the calculus of the entire equation. It's obvious the #NHLBruins were planning on heading for a retool and devoting this much salary to an aging player isn't feasible. Marchand will forever be one of my favorite players but this ask was untenable
