Brad Marchand reportedly rejected two contract extensions from the Boston Bruins before being traded
Leading up to the deadline, trade talks were picking up around Marchand, but nobody actually believed that the Boston Bruins would trade him. Especially considering Marchand has spent his entire career with the Boston Bruins since being drafted by them.
That wasn't the case tho as Brad Marchand was traded, and now a new report revealed that Marchand rejected multiple contract offers from the organization.
Marchand rejects multiple contract offers
Throughout the year, Marchand stated multiple times that he wanted to play the rest of his career with the Boston Bruins organization.
PuckEmpire reported that Brad Marchand rejected a two-year, $3 million contract extension at the deadline, before getting traded.
The Bruins offered Brad Marchand a two-year extension worth $3M AAV before he was traded, per @Buccigross.
Now a new report revealed that the Bruins had another offer on the table for Marchand earlier in the year.
Instead the Bruins worked with Marchand to go somewhere he wanted to go.
«The Bruins are always going to view Brad Marchand as family,» ESPN's Emily Kaplan reported on Saturday. «He's a legacy player, he's going to be honored as such at a later date, but this was a really difficult situation for all parties involved (Boston) did work with him to ensure that he went to a preferred destination.»
It's definitely a sad time for Bruins fans, but it's time to flip a new page.
