Chicago will be signing D Matt Grzelcyk, who was in camp on a PTO
Grzelcyk is officially back in the NHL
After having a career year with the Pittsburgh Penguins, many believed that Grzelcyk was going to sign a deal right away if he hit free agency.
He turned out to be one of the last free agents to sign a deal, and he didn't even get a contract, he got a PTO where he had to earn a contract for himself.
After their most recent game, head coach Jeff Blashill had some positive words to say about the veteran.
"I thought Gryz played well. He's a solid player, he's smart, he moves the puck pretty well. He can kind of play in a lot of different situations. I thought he played well."
Grzelcyk spoke before the game about his contract situation, and he wasn't sure if he was going to earn a contract or not.
"Not really, just prepared to play maybe two games this weekend. Let the chips fall where they may. Control what I can control, just go out there and focus on having a good game tonight and see what happens. I haven't really had any discussions. It's been kind of good, just worry about playing, not worry about what's going on outside that. I think this summer was obviously pretty stressful, just trying to treat it as your normal camp and put a good effort forward and see what happens."
