Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand just threw General Manager Don Sweeney under the bus with his latest comments.
During the NHL trade deadline, Don Sweeney ended up trading Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers, and now the former captain has opened up about what actually went down.
Marchand spent his entire career with the Boston Bruins up until the 2024-25 NHL trade deadline when he was moved to the Florida Panthers for a conditional second-round pick.
After the trade, Marchand never really opened up on what went down that led to him being dealt to the Panthers, but now he has and he threw GM Don Sweeney under the bus.

Marchand stated that he did not expect things to happen the way he did, stating he did not think he was going to enter the season without a contract.
"I didn't really expect to have the contract negotiations that I had. I thought that was going to go a lot different, which obviously I think impacted me mentally this year a lot. And I was frustrated by it. I never pictured even entering the season without a contract."
He went on to talk about how difficult it is on players mentally entering a contract year without a deal in place, which ultimately ended up leading to Marchand requesting a trade.
"I didn't really want to play contract years out because I never really wanted to have that stress. I always wanted the security of maybe take a little less and you get a deal done early and you have the security of it being done and you can just worry about playing hockey."

This move seems to be working in Marchand's favour, as he is currently in the Finals with the Florida Panthers, getting ready for game 1 that takes place on Wednesday.
