Interesting Trade Proposal Was Just Made Involving Boston Bruins David Pastrnak
NHL fans have some ridiculous ideas, and this one is the worst I've heard yet! A one-for-one trade between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators, involving David Pastrnak.
The last time the Boston Bruins traded with the Ottawa Senators they sent Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Linus Ullmark for Joonas Korpisalo, Mark Kastelic, and a 1st-round pick.
While the return wasn't terrible, Joonas Korpisalo hasn't been as advertised and Bob Essensa hasn't been able to work out the kinks in his game.
This time, Senators fans are getting bold as they think GM Steve Staios could complete a trade for one of the Bruins' best players, David Pastrnak.
Who would the Bruins receive in return? Captain Brady Tkachuk, in what would be considered a trade that would go through in EA NHL, but in real life? Not so much.
For the Bruins, can they afford to lose even more firepower? While Tkachuk undoubtedly fits the Boston archetype, so to speak, he has been a point-per-game player just once in his career and he just barely got there. Pastrnak has been at or above that level every year since 2018-19. Going into play today, the Bruins sit 26th in goals scored. While their numbers are a bit closer this year, I'd be really hesitant about taking away more natural scoring talent from a team that frankly doesn't have a lot of it at the moment.
While Tkachuk has the kind of grit and skills Bruins fans would love, as a 200-foot player who is unafraid to drop the gloves.
Losing someone like David Pastrnak would mean the Bruins lose a weapon on the ice, having been over a point-per-game player the majority of his career.
The Bruins lineup is already riddled with "gritty forwards" who can't finish, and I can't think of a ridiculous trade more than this one.
The last part to consider between both clubs is that they're divisional rivals currently fighting for a playoff spot.
Why would you send your best forward to a rival and get in return, a play like Tkachuk who isn't a sniper and has never been a 100+ point player?
I would say probably not. For starters, moving a pair of franchise players within their own division is something we rarely see and I suspect both teams would hesitate there. Cap-wise, Ottawa can't afford to take on an extra three-plus million per year on their books so that's a deal-breaker as well. But let's dig a bit deeper.
It'd be bad business for the Bruins, and considering GM Don Sweeney's current reputation, that would be a fireable offense any day of the week.
