After trading Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers during the NHL trade deadline, the Bruins went without having a captain for the remainder of the year, but now new head coach Marco Sturm has spoken on announcing a new one.
Marco Sturm was officially introduced as the new head coach off the Bruins on Tuesday, and now he will have to figure out which player he wants to be the leader in the locker room.
He did reveal that he isn't 100% set on a player wearing the "C" on their chest tho:
«I think if you're a Boston Bruin, I think it's a big deal,» Sturm told 98.5 Sports Hub's «Felger & Mazz» on Tuesday. «If you're not 100 percent sure, you don't (need a captain). So we'll see.»
If Sturm is going to name a captain, it won't be for at least a couple of months. He stated that he wants to get to know the players in the locker room instead of handing it to someone just because of their playing style, but instead who they are in the locker room.
«The one thing I told them, yes, I know the Pastrnak. I know the Lindholm and the McAvoy, yes, I've seen him play but I don't know him as a person,» Sturm said. «I actually would like to get to know him first. I want to see it. I want to feel it when I work with him everyday then maybe, I don't know yet. That's something we have to address.»
In the past, the Bruins have had really solid leaders on their team including Patrice Bergeron, Joe Thornton, and Zdeno Chara so it's going to be a tough decision for Sturm to decide who gets it next.
