After surrendering the first goal to the Senators on Tuesday night, the Bruins tied it up on the power play because of a not often used tactic by Jim Montgomery.
At 11:04 of the first period, forward
Tim Stutzle took a tripping penalty to put the Bruins on a 5-on-3.
That's when head coach Jim Montgomery called a timeout just under nine minutes into the game to rest his top power play unit.
Just 29 seconds later, David Krejci tied it up at 1-1 with his 15th of the season at 11:33 of the period.
The Bruins didn't look back from there as they held on for a 2-1 win over Ottawa.
Another interesting fact that NESN's Billy Jagr pointed out, was that Montgomery was actually mad at himself for not doing it earlier in the season.
''Much earlier this season -I think it was against FLA - Monty called himself out for not using his TO before a 5on3 to set things up. Wasn't successful. Didn't hesitate to use it early in this game and proved valuable.''
Perhaps it can be traced back to the timeout call by Montgomery just nine minutes into the game, but how will we ever know?
Boston improved to an incredible 54-11-5 record to keep their record-setting pace.
