The Boston Bruins could gain some major assets if they trade Morgan Geekie, and the New Jersey Devils could be a buyer.
The Boston Bruins have multiple free agents garnering interest ahead of the March trade deadline.
One of those is RFA
Morgan Geekie who has found himself in the Boston Bruins top nine.
He'd score 39 points (17 G, 22 A) during a career year in 2023-2024, and could add some needed scoring depth to the Devils lineup.
If the team plans to make a deep playoff push they'll need someone like Geekie to score when their stars fail to produce.
Geekie's name has been picking up some steam in the rumor mill, with the Bruins currently sitting out of a playoff spot and flirting with a retool. If Boston officially shops him, he could be a great fit in New Jersey's lineup
Geekie found a way to produce after a short slump at the beginning of the season.
He's played 52 games this season for the Bruins, scored 29 points (17 G, 12 A), and is set to score 45 if he continues to produce at the pace he's on.
This could be guaranteed, if he finds himself on a high-powered team like the Devils, who have Head Coach Sheldon Keefe running the operation.
Geekie could be valuable in the Devils in more ways than one, as he could end up being an affordable rental should they decide not to extend him a qualifying offer.
But, with the clip he's scoring at and an affordable $2 million dollar cap hit, it's a no-brainer to keep someone on the roster who's yet to hit his prime in the NHL.
Geekie could find a way to provide offense missing in the lineup now, as players like
Erik Haula, and
Dawson Mercer aren't providing the spark needed to keep the
Devils in contention.
An example of a return has been explored by The Hockey Writers, and they think a prospect could be enough in return for Geekie.
Tommy Bennett and Zander Manning from the Bruins writing crew at The Hockey Writers think a prospect would be enough for the Hurricanes to acquire Geekie or maybe a roster player. After some consideration,
Ryan Suzuki would suit a prospect and/or a hockey trade.
Who could the Bruins receive in return for Geekie? Hopefully a player who could push the retool forward, and the team back into contention.
