NHL Insider Revealed Five Massive Named Free Agents The Boston Bruins Are Set To Target
The Boston Bruins have a lineup that isn't ready for playoff contention and will need to add to the team in free agency, here's five players who could make the team better.
The
Boston Bruins will have $30 million in salary cap space to play with and a few RFAs to sign this summer.
With the amount of cap space left, Don Sweeney should target certain players who will be available on the market in July.
The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa gave us a great list of players who Sweeney and the Bruins could make a move for.
Mitch Marner could cost upwards of $14 million AAV once free agency rolls around. If he decides not to sign with his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs he could find a bigger payday on the market, and he could find himself as the 2RW behind
David Pastrnak.
The role has been in a vacuum since Jake DeBrusk departed for Vancouver in the summer.
Nikolaj Ehler would complement the
Bruins' 2nd line center
Casey Mittelstadt well, giving the line speed and skill and increasing efficiency on the ice.
Shinzawa, as it would give the newly-acquired center "speed and skill on his flanks to optimize his game."
This is a great suggestion albeit a controversial one. Bennett is universally reviled for his dirty play in last season's playoff series. But would add some grit and skill needed to the Bruins forward core that has been lost with Marchand, and Frederic leaving the squad.
Shinzawa also believes that a player like Armia could be beneficial to the Bruins lineup.
Shinzawa opines that the Bruins need "a dependable three-zone right wing to play with (third-line center Elias) Lindholm in matchup situations".
He could be an affordable addition to the Bruins lineup and can play on the PK in addition to being on Lindholm's wing.
Claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the middle of the season off of waivers he's taken well to his new home.
He plays opposite Zach Werenski on the top pair and plays on the team's 2nd PK unit.
Not only that he could be a good partner with
Hampus Lindholm when he returns to the lineup next season with his puck-moving capabilities.
