Nikita Zadorov continued to take unnecessary penalties during their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and this time he is being held accountable for it by the NHL Player Safety.
Penguins star Evgeni Malkin was standing by the Bruins bench, when Zadorov thought it would be a good idea to hit him with his stick while sitting on the bench. Malkin wasn't a fan of this and ended up turning around and swinging his stick, hitting Mason Lohrei in the head.
Ultimately Zadorov would end up taking a penalty for this, but so would Evgeni Malkin, and now both of them are being punished for this by the NHL Player Safety.
This morning it was announced that Nikita Zadorov was fined $5,000 which is the maximum allowed under the CBA for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Evgeni Malkin was also fined $5,000 which is the maximum for slashing Mason Lohrei.
Here is the play that caused both of them to be fined:
The NHL recently came out and any hit to another players head that is avoidable is grounds for a suspension, and doing so to someone sitting on the bench seems fairly inappropriate.
The NHL Player Safety had to do something for both of them, as both of their plays were inappropriate and uncalled for, but it's interesting that they both basically faced the same penalty when one seemed more dangerous then the other.
