The Bruins may be eyeing a big stay at home defender to replace Brandon Carlo.
The right side on defense has to be a area that Don Sweeney looks to upgrade if the Boston Bruins want to be a better team for the 2025-26 season.
However, the Boston Bruins may also look at trading for one instead of signing one in free agency.
Bruins eyeing a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks
Murphy has been in the rumor mill during the off-season, mainly due to it being his final year on his deal.
The Blackhawks may look to trade him because of this, and with the Bruins looking for some help on the right side of defense, Don Sweeney should be interested in him.
Murphy is a similar defenseman to Lindholm, a big 6-foot-4 defenseman that is dependable, and can kill penalties.
Another reason the Bruins should be interested in Murphy is due to his afforable cap hit, coming in at just $4.4 million, and he is entering his final year on his deal.
Murphy could bring in some veteran leadership as well, as he served as an alternate captain for the Blackhawks since the 2020-21 season.
He doesn't have a big offensive game, scoring just two goals, and 19 points with the Blackhawks last season, but the Bruins wouldn't be bringing him in for that. He finished the year with 117 hits, and 160 blocks.
