The Boston Bruins Just Revealed Their Asking Price To Acquire Brad Marchand In A Trade
The Atheltic's Fluto Shinzaea gave us an idea, of what the Bruins could get for Captain Brad Marchand if they cannot sign him to a new deal.
GM Don Sweeny has a huge decision to make: to sign or trade Captain Brad Marchand.
There's been speculation this season, that the Bruins could be in for a quick retool, and moving Marchand could allow them to gain assets to do so.
The team is 3rd in the Atlantic Division with a record of 24-20-6 and they need help on multiple areas of the ice.
Could Brad Marchand be next on the trade block? According to one anonymous executive, it's a possibility.
«If they think it'll help the team,» one hockey operations executive, granted anonymity to discuss a player not under his team's control, said when asked if the Bruins will trade Marchand. «All bets are off.»
Marchand could get a good haul, as he's second on the team in scoring this season with 37 points. It'd be a huge sacrifice as he's been one of the top contributors to the Bruins' success after a tough recovery from multiple surgeries.
He is averaging 1.78 points per 60 minutes of five-on-five play, per Natural Stat Trick. He was at 1.6 P/60 last year.
Where's one place Marchand could end up? He has a friend in the Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon, the Colorado Avalanche is one of many teams in the league that would like to enlist his services.
If Sweeney progresses to a dealmaking degree, it's possible he could consult with Marchand on a preferred destination. Marchand has a young family. He has partial no-trade protection. But Marchand might welcome a Stanley Cup chase in Colorado with good friend and fellow Nova Scotian Nathan MacKinnon.
And with a no-trade clause, it could make things difficult unless Sweeney works with the Bruins Captain on his preferred destination.
To give you an idea of a return for Marchand, here's the Bleacher Report.
Acquiring Marchand may cost the Wild promising young forward Liam Öhgren or Marat Khusnutdinov. The Bruins could also seek a first-rounder and perhaps one of the Wild's two third-rounders in 2026. So, a top prospect, and a pick is what's been floated as a return for the Captain. Would you make the deal?
