A new trade proposal sees the Boston Bruins and divisional rival in the Montreal Canadiens combining for a trade involving a top-six center man.

The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens have had one of the more historical rivals in the NHL, they both currently have different goals from one another.
Because of this, they could emerge as solid trade partners.
After clearing house last season, the Boston Bruins are now ready to build around David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Jeremy Swayman.
This off-season, multiple players have been involved in trade rumors, but one consistent player is now being linked to the Montreal Canadiens.
With the Montreal Canadiens in need of a second line center, Casey Mittelstadt seems like the perfect candidate for the job.

Bruins could trade Casey Mittelstadt to the Canadiens

According to Jesse Courville-Lynch of The Hockey Writers, a trade between the Bruins and Canadiens could be completed this off-season.
«The Canadiens need to find a second-line centre to fill out their depth chart and have a shot at making a deep playoff run, and Mittelstadt seems like the perfect candidate for that.» Courville-Lynch stated. «He has some solid underlying numbers and produces well offensively, but had a really tough 2024-25 season, and could benefit from a fresh start.»

He then went on to reveal what the Boston Bruins could receive in exchange for Mittelstadt:
«Realistically, a deal looks like the Canadiens acquiring Mittelstadt in exchange for Aatos Koivu and their 2026 second-round pick.»

He continued:
«The Canadiens have the Columbus Blue Jackets' second-round pick in 2026, so they can afford to move their own. Koivu is also a promising prospect who could have a shot at breaking into an NHL lineup within the next few seasons, but to bring in a guy like Mittelstadt, who fills a need, it's worth moving on from a prospect.»
