A new trade rumor has surfaced the media, speculating that the Boston Bruins are set to trade Casey Mittelstadt to the organization's longtime divisional rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, in a massive deal.

While the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens have had one of the most intense rivalries over the course of their franchise histories, it seems as though right now, they both have different goals, leading them to be able to benefit from combining for a trade.
Following the Bruins' clean out last campaign, they are seemingly prepared to beguile their team from the ground up, surrounding David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Jeremy Swayman.
That being said, one player who has been looming the rumor mill all summer is forward, Casey Mittelstadt, and when analyzing the Canadiens' need for a second-time center, it seems as though he could be a perfect target.

New trade proposal sees the Boston Bruins and their divisional rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, combine for a trade

Reporter, Jesse Courville-Lynch of The Hockey Writers, unveiled a potential trade which could erupt this offseason between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens.
«The Canadiens need to find a second-line centre to fill out their depth chart and have a shot at making a deep playoff run, and Mittelstadt seems like the perfect candidate for that.» Courville-Lynch stated. «He has some solid underlying numbers and produces well offensively, but had a really tough 2024-25 season, and could benefit from a fresh start.»

Courville-Lynch then unveiled what the Boston Bruins could potential receive in exchange for Mittelstadt:
«Realistically, a deal looks like the Canadiens acquiring Mittelstadt in exchange for Aatos Koivu and their 2026 second-round pick.»

He continued:
«The Canadiens have the Columbus Blue Jackets' second-round pick in 2026, so they can afford to move their own. Koivu is also a promising prospect who could have a shot at breaking into an NHL lineup within the next few seasons, but to bring in a guy like Mittelstadt, who fills a need, it's worth moving on from a prospect.»

Although it is uncertain whether or not the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens would in fact combine for a trade, it seems as though it could undoubtedly be beneficial for both organizations.
