Last night, the Boston Bruins completed a surprising roster move after reassigning Marc McLaughlin back down to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League.
Many believed this was either because the Bruins were set to recall a different player from the Providence Bruins, or because Mark Kastelic was healthy and ready to return to the Bruins lineup after being injured on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Well this morning the Boston Bruins confirmed that they have recalled Vinni Lettieri from the Providence Bruins according to the American Hockey League transactions.
Per AHL transactions, Boston recalls Vinni Lettieri from Providence
Vinni Lettieri has definitely earned this opportunity to play some games with the Boston Bruins, as he currently leads the Providence Bruins with 14 goals, 21 assists for 35 points in 35 games this season.
Many were just surprised to see the Bruins give him this opportunity over the likes of Fabian Lysell, Matthew Poitras and Georgii Merkulov, who have all been impressive this year for the Providence Bruins.
Not that he hasn't earned it, but it wouldn't have been my guess. Leads Providence in score with 14-21-35 in 35 games
It's still unclear what Mark Kastelic's status is going into the Bruins next game, but once there is an update on him, we will be sure to inform everyone.
