During game 3, a hilarious video of Brad Marchand was leaked of him eating ice cream between intermissions, but now his head coach is shutting down the story.
Brad Marchand was caught eating ice cream during the second intermission of game 3 on Friday, and when asked what it was he revealed that it was a Dairy Queen Blizzard, one of his favourite treats, and he was enjoying it during one of their biggest games of the season.
Paul Maurice ended up meeting with the media and was asked about Marchand's comments, and he gave a surprising response. Maurice tried to shut down the story, doubting what Marchand had told reporters during the game.
"Is that a fact?" asked Maurice. "Oh no I know he said it, I'm just not sure that makes it a fact."
These comments got a big laugh from the reporters in the room, and he continued trying to shut it down calling it a conspiracy theory.
"You have video evidence.... this is a conspiracy theory," said Maurice with a smile.
After reporters told him it was caught on video, he tried to place the blame for what happened on Panthers General Manager:
"I know that our general manager is a little bit of an ice cream aficionado so maybe that came from him, maybe he greenlighted it," said Maurice.
The reporters revealed that it was a Dairy Queen Blizzard to Maurice and then he quickly revealed that it may not be on Bill Zeto after all.
"Oh really? Oh that takes Bill out," said Maurice. "He's more of a niche ice cream dude."
Reporters then asked if Maurice was going to give the whole team some Dairy Queen after Marchand scored a goal during the period that followed his snack, stating he may very well have to do it:
"Probably," admitted Maurice, "Yeah we'll run with that. There's cameras everywhere man we can't get away with anything anymore, but that would be a good story. I have no problem with it, so long as it doesn't get on the sweater."
Game 4 between the Panthers and Hurricanes takes place tonight, and it will be interesting to see if the Hurricanes can break their 15 game losing streak in the ECF.
