On Friday night, the Ottawa Senators put up four goals against the Vegas Golden Knights but still fell short, losing 6-4. After the game, Senators' starting goalie Linus Ullmark openly shared his frustration, placing the blame solely on himself. Ullmark allowed five goals on 27 shots, ending the game with a .815 save percentage.
«If they had a better goalie in there, we would have won 4-3,» Ullmark admitted after the game. «I was too sloppy for this level. In games like this, your goalie has to shut it down. Giving up those last two goals cost us.»
Rather than criticize his team, Ullmark focused on his own performance.
«I never put the blame on anyone else,» he said. «It's my job to make those saves.»
When asked if limited playing time this season-only three games so far-contributed to his off night, Ullmark acknowledged it might have had a small effect.
«Maybe a little,» he said, «but I won't make excuses... it just stinks, that's all.»
Ullmark's honesty is admirable, and something missed dearly in Boston this year, even if he might be too hard on himself. It's clear he holds himself to a high standard, and he's committed to doing his part for the team.
Did the Bruins make the wrong move trading Linus Ullmark?
