The Boston Bruins are 45-21-5 this season, good for 3rd in the Atlantic Division, 5th in the Eastern Conference, and 7th in the entire NHL.
Despite the success this season, the Bruins continue to lead the league in a category they'd rather not. Boston hasn't found a way to keep their opponents from scoring in the last minute of a period, whether it's a game-tying or go-ahead goal.
They've let in 23 last-minute goals, which leads the entire NHL, and it's a problem they need to fix for the playoffs.
Captain Patrice Bergeron commented on the problem:
"I think it's attention to details all the way through. You can't let your foot off the gas pedal, especially at the end there late in periods ... That gives the other team momentum. We definitely need to rectify that."
The lack of focus in the dying minutes of periods needs to tighten up, as it could be their undoing against better teams in the playoffs. The Bruins have a very good team this season, with an excellent chance for another deep playoff run, but this problem could stop that from happening.
