The NHL Department of Player Safety had announced that Boston Bruins forward David Backes would have a hearing for his interference play on Detroit Red Wings forward Frans Nielsen.

The NHL has decided to suspend Backes for three games based on the hit.
"At the moment contact is made, [David] Pastrnak has already gained possession of the puck for the Bruins and made his next move with the puck. In addition to the lateness of the check, what elevates this hit to merit supplementary discipline, is the significant head contact that occurs, and the force with which it is delivered."

It means Backes will miss the upcoming home and home games against the Chicago Blackhawks.
It's actually the first time Backes has been fined or suspended by the Department of Player Safety.
