Another big name is officially off the board as one of the top players available, Timo Meier, is headed to an Eastern Conference contender.
After weeks of speculation, Meier is headed from the San Jose Sharks to the New Jersey Devils. According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic and TSN, who broke the news first:
Still pending the official trade call, but hearing that the New Jersey Devils have acquired Timo Meier from the San Jose Sharks.
The return that the Sharks are receiving from the Devils is yet to be announced, but Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff has confirmed LeBrun's initial reports:
Meier, 26, has registered 31 goals and 21 assists in 57 games for the bottom feeding Sharks club. The Swiss native is due to receive a $10 million qualifying offer, unless an extension is agreed upon before that.
