Is there any bigger compliment than an NHL legend comparing himself to you?
Because that's the case for the most recent first overall draft pick,
Juraj Slafkovsky of the Montreal Canadiens. One of the biggest surprises this summer was when the Canadiens selected the Slovak over projected number one
Shane Wright.
Of course, we won't know who the better pick will end up being for many years from now. However, one NHL legend and former Boston Bruins player thinks the Habs made the right choice.
Jaromir Jagr is, without a doubt, one of the greatest hockey players to play the game. Jagr has such a passion for the game that he still plays professionally in his home country of Czechia at the age of 50. Also an owner of Rytíři Kladno of the Czech Extraliga (ELH), he's always looking for new, young talent.
Before the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Slafkovsky caught Jagr's eye. After watching him play, he had an immediate interest in trying to sign him. He recently offered the following comment about Slafkovsky:
''I turned on the TV and Slafkovsky had a puck by the boards. He was very strong. He was player a similar style like me. I told myself, I wanted him on my team (in Czech top league). When I found out he was just 17 I realized I had no chance to get him.''
