Some very tragic news has just been reported, revealing that a former first-round NHL draft pick has tragically passed away.

Former first-round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers, Scott Metcalfe has reportedly passed away on Friday. It has not been shared publicly on what caused him to pass, but he left us at the age of 58-years-old. Just heartbreaking.
After the passing, the NHL Alumni Association had this to say:
The 20th overall pick did not play for the Oilers long. After being drafted in 1985, he would only appear in two games with the Oilers in 1988.
Metcalfe was then traded to the Buffalo Sabres, appearing in just one game. He would get sent down to the AHL, where he would spend nine seasons playing for the Rochester Americans.
He appeared in just 19 career NHL games, but played professionally in Germany and the UK before calling it a career.
One of his former teammates in the AHL, Jody Gage had this to say:
"It's a terribly sad day for the organization. Scott had this larger-than-life personality about him, and it resonated with Amerks fans all over Rochester. It's easy to see why he was such a fan favorite.

He wore the red, white, and blue proudly every night, was the ultimate competitor and a consummate professional who always put his teammates and the organization first.

He did so much for the community, even well after his retirement, and to this day called Rochester his home. He was absolutely beloved in the locker room and will be truly missed. My heart goes out to his wife, Jane, and their children, Tanner, Quinn, and Keegan, and all that knew him within the local hockey community during this unimaginably difficult time."

Don Stevens, one of Metcalfe's teammates also said this:
"Not sure what I will remember most about Metter: his jokester or serious side, his rugged hockey player side, his extremely intelligent, book-reading side, his fun-loving, friendly side, or his quiet, private side. Metter was extremely loyal to the team, his teammates, and his family."

Rest in Peace, Scott.
