Johnny Gaudreau tragically passed away after a terrible accident at age 31
Today it was just confirmed that Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother have passed away. Per the NHL and Blue Jackets, Johnny 31, and brother 29, have both passed away and no additional information has been given.
There were rumours that were surfacing last night on X (twitter) that both Gaudreau and a family member had passed away after being hit on bicycles, but everyone was hoping it was just a rumour. Sadly this morning it has been confirmed.
The Columbus Blue Jackets released a statement:
«The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by the unimaginable tragedy,» the team said in a statement. «Johnny Gaudreau was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.» Gary Bettman has also commented on the passing:
«Gaudreau often told the story of how his father taught him to skate as a child in his home state of New Jersey, and he carried that same youthful passion throughout his 11 NHL seasons,» Bettman said. «A skilled playmaker, Gaudreau participated in the NHL All-Star Game seven times where he was always a fan favorite, particularly while showcasing his talents in the various skills competitions for which he was so well suited.»
This is so sad, our condolences are with the Gaudreau's family and friends as they go through this tough time.
