New insight has unveiled that a former Boston Bruins fan-favourite will be officially leaving the Florida Panthers organization, and his new path has just been announced.
It has officially been confirmed that former Boston Bruins enforcer, Shawn Thornton, will be taking on a new challenge in an entirely different league, and we have the details.
In the beginning of the month, Shawn Thornton, who was working as a Florida Panthers front office member at the time, announced that he would be departing from his post in Sunrise for a new challenge.
However, Thornton never revealed what this new challenge was, as he was not ready to reveal what his reasoning was for leaving the Panthers, especially after the organization won back-to-back Cups.
Despite Thornton being silent about the details of where he planned to go, fans were loud.
Many Bruins fans began to hope that this former fan-favourite was going to make his way back 'home' in some sort of role within the Boston, given his ties to the organization.
Unfortunately for Bruins fans, those hopes were officially crushed on Wednesday, August 27, when it was revealed where Thornton's new path will be.

On Wednesday, 48-year old Thornton announced that he will be taking his talents to a completely different league, with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, where he will be the franchise's new Senior Vice President and Chief Partnership Officer.

Thornton expressed his excitement towards his new role, while expressing his gratitude towards the Florida Panthers:

The city of Atlanta, especially downtown, is poised for incredible growth, thanks to its unique ability to fuse sports, entertainment, and culture, with the Hawks and State Farm Arena at the heart of it all,» said Thornton. «As I take this next step, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Florida Panthers.
