While many experts predicted his goal scoring would cool off the further into his career he got, Ovechkin has shown no signs of slowing down.
Ovechkin found the back of the net against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night and added an assist to become just the 21st player in NHL history to reach the 1,400-point milestone. (773G - 628A - 1,401Pts in 1,265GP)
Wednesday also marked Ovechkin's 395th career multi-point game, tying him with Guy Lafleur for 17th place on the League's all-time list.
But what's even more impressive is that Ovechkin is hitting these milestones at this point in his career. The first overall pick of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft is 36 years old, and still playing at such an elite level.
By netting his 43rd goal of the campaign last night, Ovi joined an elite group of goals scorers who found the back of the net 40 times or more at age 36 and up.
Bruins fans remember how lethal guys like Phil Esposito and Johnny Bucyk were for the B's back in the 70's, which really puts Ovechkin's recent accomplishments into perspective.
