As of right now, the Boston Bruins (W1) would face the Carolina Hurricanes (M1) in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Before the Hartford Whalers relocated to North Carolina in 1997, they had a cross-border rivalry with the Boston Bruins. The most famous feud happened on April 11, 1990, almost exactly 32 years ago.
It all started from a high-stick by Whalers Ed Kastelic on Craig Janney; Cam Neely went after Dean Evason, with the benches going at it too. Somehow there was only a combined 30 penalty minutes in the entire game (pre-instigator rule).
Check out the entire brawl below:
If the Hurricanes and Bruins meet up this season in the playoffs, it's safe to say there won't be any line brawls. Although a great showcase of skill between the two talented teams. In all honesty, the latter would most certainly be more entertaining!
Nevertheless, it will be nice to see a potential new rivalry born.
