Another NHL team has locked down a head coach to a significant contract.
It's been reported for almost a week now that the Edmonton Oilers were signing interim head coach Jay Woodcroft to a three-year deal but had not been confirmed.
Until now, NHL insider Kevin Weekes broke the news on his Twitter (@KevinWeekes) earlier today:
" **Breaking News** 🚨 📰
I can confirm Jay Woodcroft has officially signed a 3yr contract as HC of the @EdmontonOilers @espn @NHL @StanleyCup #HockeyTwitter"
The Oilers Woodcroft from the AHL on February 10th, 2022 and went 26-9-3 in the final 38 games of the regular season under the rookie coach to climb from outside the playoffs and all the way to finish second in the Pacific Division.
Edmonton also went all the way to the Western Conference Finals before being swept by the juggernaut Colorado Avalanche.
Jay Woodcroft is a fresh-face NHL head coach outside of the 'coaching carousel' that you don't see a team hire very often.
