One of those players who contributed to the free-agent frenzy was Matt Grzelcyk whose been a Boston Bruin his entire career.
He made it to the big club in 2016-2017 and has been a mainstay in the team's defensive core.
He would sign a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins and GM Kyle Dubas as they offered him an AAV of $2.75 Million for his services for the 2024-2025 season.
It's of course part of the business, as teams need different traits and skills from different players. Unfortunately that involves turnover of the roster, which means letting career Bruins players like Grzelcyk walk.
The Bruins sent a heartfelt message to Grzelcyk who was a fan favorite during his time in Boston and had roots deep in Bruins territory.
He and Charlie McAvoy were considerably close, as evidenced by message exchanged between the two as well.
The pain of loss, reminds us we're human, we care and Grzelcyk has been here during good and bad times, including the 2019 run.
May have find success in Pittsburgh and we will remember the good times here in Boston.
Grzelcyk has played a total of 445 NHL games, scoring 135 points(25 G, 110 A), and in 66 playoff games, 14 points( 5 G, 9 A), and will bring significant experience to the chaotic, Pittsburgh roster.
Grzelcyk was drafted by the Bruins 85th overall in the 2012 NHL draft, and the Charleston, Massachusetts-born defenseman played four years from 2012-2016 at the Boston University during his collegiate career.
