Over the years there have been numerous bad calls. Almost every hockey fan has a memory of a play they felt was egregiously called or not called against their franchise. I've watched hockey for 30+ years and I can honestly say I've never seen a call that made me shake my head as much as this call.
Today during a game featuring Avangard of the KHL. Defender Vladimir Tkachyov was assessed a 5-minute major for hooking.
There is nothing egregious or dangerous about this play and no reason that this should have been called a major penalty. This is just another aspect of the game of hockey becoming softer as people try and take physicality out of the game.
The player who was hooked was uninjured on the play and remained in the game.
