Former Boston Bruin and Stanley Cup Champion Reilly Smith involved in trade
Former Boston Bruin and Stanley Cup Champion Reilly Smith was involved in a massive trade yesterday.
It was announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers combined for a trade yesterday that would send Reilly Smith to the Rangers.
Shayna Goldman reported that the Penguins traded Smith to the Rangers for some picks and the Penguins also retained some salary on Reilly Smith as he enters his final year of his deal.
"2nd rounder + 5th as return for Reilly Smith."
This is a big trade for the Penguins as it makes it clear they are planning for the future, while also still trying to stay competetive while they still have the likes of Malkin, Crosby and Letang all producing and playing at elite levels.
Smith had a down year with the Penguins and clearly just didn't fit with them, playing in 76 games last year smith put up 13 goals, 27 assists for 40 points.
